Huawei releases new flagship P7 to hit 80 million sales
Overseas prices are about 1,000 yuan higher than domestic prices; to challenge the leader position in the smartphone industry with P7
This week, Huawei has joined hands with China Mobile and China Unicom to release the annual blockbuster Ascend P7 in Beijing, which is an upgraded version of Huawei’s most profitable mobile phone product P6 in history. Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG (business group), said in an exclusive interview with reporters that Huawei wants to attack Samsung, the leader in the smartphone industry, with the P7.
Target 80 million this year
P7 is a collection of the current industry’s top configuration of the 4G flagship phone, equipped with a 5-inch 1080P full high definition screen, with 6.5mm ultra-thin body, rear 13 million pixel Sony’s latest flagship back-illuminated IMX214 lens, and equipped with SLR camera-level independent image processor. In addition, P7 also uses a special material of metal body and glass back cover, which is also very particular about the appearance design and processing technology.
P7 this month, the first batch in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and other more than 30 countries and regions listed sales, in overseas markets, P7 priced at 449 euros, about 3,890 yuan, while in the Chinese market, the phone is priced at 2,888 yuan.
Last year, Huawei’s end point smartphones shipped 52 million units, entering the third place in the world. This year, Huawei’s goal is to ship more than 80 million smartphones. "We are very confident in the goal of 80 million units," said Yu Chengdong. "The next two or three years will be critical for all mobile phone manufacturers, and Huawei’s end point will be the same, either go up or disappear."
P7 short-term no price adjustment
Previously, the internal speech of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei in the management team of Huawei’s consumer business was exposed. Ren Zhengfei expressed concern about the current price war between domestic mobile phone companies. "What kind of high-tech is a mobile phone that only earns 30 yuan!" Ren Zhengfei asked Huawei mobile phones not to emphasize sales, but to say profit.
In an interview with the media after the press conference, a Huawei executive said that the P7 is good enough and confident to be launched into the global market. In terms of the configuration and experience provided by the P7, the price of 2,888 yuan is not expensive, even a little cheaper than competing products. The executive said that the price of this phone will not be adjusted in a short time.
"Challenge Samsung" with P7
Mr. Yu said Huawei’s goal was to overtake Samsung, which ranks first. "The second-ranked manufacturer [Apple] has a special industrial chain, I can’t say, but the first-ranked [Samsung] I believe we can surpass it. Because it doesn’t have any competitive advantages that Huawei doesn’t have."
Xu Qinsong, vice president of Huawei’s consumer business, said that, like Apple’s ability to integrate the entire industrial chain and platform, Huawei is still far behind. In addition to screens and chips, Samsung offers many products by itself, and Huawei also has certain gaps in many aspects.
"I think the core point is that we stick to our own direction, we can survive, and we will slowly surpass them in ten years. We will do these things well in a down-to-earth manner, and we will find differentiated solutions or find good solutions in a longer time," Xu Qinsong said.
According to IDC statistics, in the global smartphone market, Huawei’s share is second only to Samsung and Apple, ranking third. (Lin Qiling)
