The Mazda EZ-6, which will go on pre-sale on September 28, could easily be labelled as an electric version, a shell-changing version (or Changan), a Chinese-branded mid-sized joint venture with reverse technology output, and so on. With these distinctive labels, how much is it reasonable to sell for?
Let’s talk about the origin of this model first. It was jointly developed by Mazda and Changan and built on the Changan EPA platform. In terms of body size, the length, width and height are 4921/1890/1485mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2895mm, which is basically comparable to the Qiyuan A07. It also uses frameless doors and hatchback design.
From the information currently exposed, the power form of the Mazda EZ-6 is also the same as that of the Qiyuan A07, with both pure electric and extended range, and a rear-drive layout. The power parameters of the pure electric version are 190kW, and the extended range version uses the same 1.5-liter range extender, and the power parameters are also exactly the same. Of course, the battery information has not been announced, and there may be slight differences due to different suppliers.
Since there are so many similarities, what are the differences that Mazda brings to it? First of all, of course, the "shell" is different. There is no derogatory meaning to this sentence, because Mazda has always been known for its design, whether it is the old Mazda 6 or later, there are many loyal fans. So this electric EZ-6 can see the inheritance of Mazda’s soul design at a glance, slender, smooth and sporty. Of course, some people will complain, it looks no different from a fuel car. Indeed, even its middle grid just closes the intake grille of the fuel car.
Compared with Mazda’s previous models, the interior of the EZ-6 has changed a lot, but it is similar to the Qiyuan A07. Equipped with a 14.6-inch floating screen and a full LCD instrument. In fact, the overall product strength of the Mazda EZ-6 is acceptable, but there are two most embarrassing issues.
One is the price, we do not take it with BYD, JK 007, Tesla these competitors to compare, say the same platform Changan Qiyuan A07, the price is only 135,900, dark blue L07 pure electric version is only sold 151,900; the size of the Dongfeng Yipai 007 is only 131,600. If the price of Mazda EZ-06 is high, why should consumers buy it?
The second is the sales network. Even in a city like Beijing, it is difficult to find a Mazda 4S store. If you can’t reach consumers, how can you sell the car? So I think it is better to borrow Mazda’s sales channels in Changan, and it may be better to sell on the same platform in Changan’s 4S store. Of course, how to coordinate the relationship between the two parties is another matter.
